Radon testing and monitoring for your home

Whether you're testing for the first time, want your home's long-term level or would like to follow radon through a full year, we'll help you pick the right option. Most homeowners start with our recommended Short-Term + Long-Term Testing.

Which option fits?

  • Recommended

I want an early look now, and a reliable answer later.

    Short-Term + Long-Term Radon Testing

    48 hours + at least 91 days

We start a 48-hour preliminary check with a professional radon monitor and place a long-term laboratory detector at the same visit. You get an early snapshot within days, while the long-term test builds the clearer picture of your home's average radon level.

Equipment: Airthings Corentium Pro professional radon monitor, plus a long-term laboratory detector

    Good to know

    • The 48-hour reading is preliminary. Radon changes with weather and how the home is used, so it can differ from your long-term result.
    • Your long-term laboratory result is what Health Canada's 200 Bq/m³ guideline and any mitigation decision are based on.
  • I want to follow my radon levels through every season.

    One-Year Continuous Radon Monitoring

    1 year

We set up a Wi-Fi connected continuous radon monitor in your home, on loan for a full year, and send you a report every month so you can follow how your radon levels change through the seasons. At the end of the year, we pick the monitor up.

Equipment: Ecosense EcoGuard continuous radon monitor, on loan

    Good to know

    • The monitor needs to stay plugged in and connected to your Wi-Fi to keep recording.
    • Monitoring shows trends over time. It is not an emergency alert service or a laboratory long-term test report.
  • I want to know my home's long-term radon level.

    Long-Term Radon Testing

At least 91 days, ideally during the heating season

The test Health Canada recommends for understanding your home's average radon level. We place a long-term detector, collect it after at least 91 days, arrange laboratory analysis and walk you through the result.

    Good to know

    • Results arrive after the test period of at least 91 days, plus laboratory processing time.
    • Fall and winter testing is preferred because radon levels are typically higher during the heating season.
  • I already have a high result.

Already have a high result? We'll help you understand what kind of test it was, what it means and your mitigation options.

    Good to know

    • Decisions about mitigation should be based on a long-term test of at least 91 days.
  • My long-term result is above the guideline.

Common questions

What's the difference between a short-term and a long-term test?

A short-term test shows radon levels during the test period, at least 48 hours. A long-term test runs at least 91 days and shows your home's average level, which is what Health Canada's guideline is based on. Our recommended option starts both at the same visit, so you get an early snapshot and the long-term answer.

Can new homes have radon?

Yes. Radon levels can differ greatly between homes, and testing is the only way to know. A radon rough-in pipe doesn't reduce radon on its own.

What does 200 Bq/m³ mean?

It's Health Canada's guideline for radon in homes, based on a long-term average. If your long-term result is above it, Health Canada recommends reducing your radon level. Lower is always better.

What do I need for one-year monitoring?

A power outlet near the monitoring spot and a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. We provide the monitor on loan and pick it up at the end of the year.

How much does radon testing cost?

Pricing depends on the service and your property's location. Request a quote and we'll send you one.
